You’re invited to a community gathering in West Colfax on October 20!

After the excitement of the Over the Colfax Clover neighborhood festival, the West Colfax Business Improvement District and WalkDenver are still working together on improving traffic safety in the neighborhood. On Saturday, October 20, you’re invited to take part in community art and raise awareness about Vision Zero and pedestrian safety on Federal Boulevard at a community event at the Corky Gonzales Library!

Councilwoman Ortega and Councilman Espinoza are using Imagine 2020 funds for a community art project that brings people together painting brightly colored figures of pedestrians. These figures will be installed on fences along 14th and Federal as an experimental placemaking and traffic calming exercise. The project is called “Art Fences on Federal – Slow Down for Art, Slow Down for Us” and is designed to remind commuters that Federal is more than a thoroughfare – it’s a community surrounded and traversed by neighbors, friends, and family.

In addition to painting the pedestrian silhouettes, we will also have other activities to promote Vision Zero in West Denver. We’ll be giving away eye-catching yard signs that read “Slow the Funk Down” and encourage drivers to obey the speed limit. We’ll also be planting bulbs in the Colfax and Federal cloverleaf interchange to beautify the space and create a more pleasant environment to travel through. Then, join us for happy hour at Seedstock Brewery!
