Please welcome WalkDenver’s newest team member, Cindy Ambs!

by Jessica Vargas on February 14, 2019

We are thrilled to introduce you to WalkDenver’s new Neighborhood Organizer, Cindy Ambs. She will support the development and implementation of three neighborhood-focused programs that WalkDenver is leading together with community partners: the Friends of Little Saigon initiative, the Vision Zero Community Program, and the Denver Community Active Living Coalition. Her main focus will be public outreach for the Friends of Little Saigon initiative and and exploring the possibility of creating a new business improvement district (BID) on the South Federal Boulevard corridor. Her bilingual skills will be instrumental in public outreach for the Little Saigon “placemaking” project. She will be obtaining community feedback through in-person and online surveys that help decide how to improve pedestrian walkability on South Federal. Previously, Cindy was an interpreter for the Community Language Cooperative here in Denver, where she often worked with the City & County of Denver and local community organizations.

Tell us about yourself!

I was born in Vietnam, one of seven!  My family moved to the states when I was 4 and we settled in Orange County, California.  Shortly after we moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan where I went to high school got my degree in Business in Administration at Davenport University.  I met my husband working in the marketing department at Amway Corporate. We eventually settled in Denver where the mountains were calling and the sun always shines.

What is the most interesting place you’ve ever walked?

Vietnam!  We took our family to Vietnam in 2017 and it was an eye opener.  I experienced first hand where a city evolved without care or consideration for its pedestrians.

Why did you want to join WalkDenver?

I love WalkDenver’s mission.  Being a parent, I want to live in a city where my kids can walk or bike in any neighborhood safely.  I want to be a part of that change!
