Join the Denver Streets Partnership in celebrating PARK(ing) Day on September 20!

by Jessica Vargas on August 21, 2019

On Friday, September 20, Denver will join other cities around the world in temporarily reclaiming car parking spaces for people. This year, the Denver Streets Partnership is collaborating with SPIN and the Better Block Foundation to celebrate National PARK(ing) Day. For the day, we’re imagining what our city landscape could look like with more plants, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Six teams have been selected as part of Spin’s parklet design competition to build prototype parklets and install them in Downtown Denver on PARK(ing) Day. The DSP will be hosting our own parklet at the Dairy Block on Wazee St and 18th St and we have reserved parking spaces in downtown for additional community-designed parklets.

Host your own parklet!

If you’d like to host your own parklet, there are two ways you can participate! You can partner with the DSP to host a parklet downtown – we will assign you a spot and take care of the permitting for you. If you’d like to host a parklet somewhere else, you will be responsible for obtaining a permit with the City & County of Denver. Learn more at the PARK(ing) Day page on the DSP website!

PARK(ing) Day is an annual event that repurposes curbside parking spaces into spaces for people, known as parklets. Since the first temporary parklet was set up in San Francisco in 2005, PARK(ing) Day has been celebrated all over the world as designers, students, artists, and community members reimagine public streets into vibrant, people-friendly spaces. Bring your neighbors, friends, and family, and explore the potential of a greener, more safer downtown Denver!
