Discover East Colfax Walking Tour July 12

by Jill Locantore on June 24, 2015

Explore the Avenue’s fascinating history, changing present, and future possibilities

WalkDenver invites you to join us on Sunday morning, July 12th for an exciting, educational and fun walking tour of East Colfax to learn about the corridor’s past, get the skinny on new changes happening today, and discover and discuss what changes might be needed for it to become an even better place for people and pedestrians in the future. The tour will last about two hours, from 10 am to noon, covering approximately two miles from the Ogden Theatre to the Bluebird Theatre and ending at the City Park Esplanade Fresh Market.

We will see and learn about historic buildings and districts, meet the owners of brand new businesses like Brik wine bar and New World Cheese shop, examine street and intersection conditions, hear from experts on recent developments along the corridor, learn the story of the Bluebird District’s revival, and visit one of Denver’s best farmer’s markets (with an optional walk up the Esplanade to City Park for a BYO picnic lunch that demonstrates how the century-old City Beautiful movement continues to benefit our city’s livability and aesthetics.) Expect lively conversation, observations and participation along the way!

Guest experts on our tour include:

  • Local architectural historian Amy Zimmer, author of Denver’s Capitol Hill Neighborhood and member of Denver’s Landmark Preservation Commission
  • Dave Walstrom, longtime Colfax supporter and resident flâneur
  • Denver Planning Board member and Colfax resident Andy Baldyga of the Mulhern Group
